Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretarfy Mohan Kanda and Chief Electoral Officer M Narayanan Rao, after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh, said they were called to discuss revision of the electoral rolls.
Asked whether probable dates for Assembly elections were finalised, they said the discussion was mainly on the progress of revision of electoral rolls. The revision, which started from November 27 will go up to January 20 as per schedule, they said.
The Election Commission will fix the date for polls after reviewing security and other situations in the state. The state government had recommended holding of elections early in March as school examination schedule would start from March 17. There were representations that there should be no disruption in the conduct of school examinations.
The state Assembly was dissolved last month with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu seeking early elections.
EC sources said the meeting merely discussed the progress in the ongoing revision of electoral rolls and nothing more.
Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh has recently hinted that Assembly elections to Andhra Pradesh could be held in the last week of March.
